Mr. Macdonald, a 1988 graduate of Dalhousie Law School, joined the Public Prosecution Service in 1993 after several years in private practice. In 2008 he was appointed Chief Crown Attorney of the Special Prosecutions section which handles complex and specialized prosecutions such as major frauds, internet child exploitation, and significant regulatory offences including workplace injuries and fatalities. Under Mr. Macdonald’s leadership, the section has doubled in size. Mr. Macdonald is chair of the electronic disclosure committee which oversaw the implementation of e-disclosure across the province and was a member of the committee which developed and implemented the Prosecution Information Composite System, an internal prosecutions database. Andrew Macdonald, the longest serving Chief Crown attorney at the Public Prosecution Service, is taking on the new role of Chief Crown attorney, Special Initiatives. Mr. Macdonald most recently held the position of Chief Crown attorney, Special Prosecutions. “I am very pleased that such a distinguished prosecutor will be providing leadership for a series of initiatives critical to the Public Prosecution Service,” said Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions. “I know Mr. Macdonald’s experience and insight will help propel the Public Prosecution Service forward in several areas, including technology and best business practices.” Most significantly, Mr. Macdonald will provide leadership on the development and rollout of case management technology. “In a prosecution service handling about 50,000 new criminal and regulatory offences annually, case management is essential,” said Mr. Herschorn. The case management system will: provide consistent indicators of performance capture data accurately enable proper resource allocation facilitate planning streamline and standardize work processes eliminate duplication and provide a complete picture of a file and offender

Kolkata: The Election Commission on Friday barred BJP leader from Nadia district Mahadev Sarkar from holding any public meetings, processions, public rallies, road shows, interviews or public utterances in social, print and audio visual media, for a period of 48 hours. The timing of the ban on Sarkar, who is the Nadia district president of BJP, will be in effect from 4 pm today (Friday) till 4.00 pm on Sunday. The stringent action by the Commission comes in the wake of Sarkar violating the model code of conduct, by making offensive and sexually coloured remarks against Mahua Moitra, Trinamool Congress candidate from the Krishnanagar seat, during a public meeting at Krishnanagar Government College on April 22. The Commission has strongly condemned the statement in its order. Dissatisfied with the reply of the BJP leader, the Commission took action against him. “He has not denied making the alleged comments that have been ascribed to him in the complaint made by Mahua Moitra. He has, however, maintained that the alleged matter does not come under the MCC,” the order copy of the EC read. Also Read – Bengal civic volunteer dies in road mishap on national highwayIt may be mentioned that the Commission has already issued a direction to all political parties to refrain from any deeds/actions that may be construed as being repugnant to the honour and dignity of women. Moitra had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court, pointing out certain offensive and sexually coloured remarks by Sarkar against her. The bench, comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, disposed her plea on Thursday by directing the Commission to pass ‘necessary’ orders in the matter ‘forthwith’. “I am happy that the Commission has taken strong action. BJP leaders have often been found making objectionable comments during election rallies. They should take this as a lesson and be careful before making such remarks during political meetings and rallies,” Moitra said.
Rabat – Tourists from the GCC countries spent more than $410 million (4 billion Dirhams) in Morocco in 2013, says Stephan Killinger, Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort President. The hotel’s president estimates are based on recent statistics on tourists’ spending in Morocco, which revealed that tourists from GCC countries are the top spenders. The rise in Gulf tourist’s expenses in Morocco is due to the fact that the kingdom has become their favorite destination in the Arab world, ahead of Egypt which until very recently was considered the preferred destination for GCC tourists. The Gulf tourists’ expenses have increased significantly, moving from 2 billion Dirhams in 2005 to 4 billion Dirhams in 2013.The same source added that Gulf tourists’ expenses represent 10% of total tourism revenues in Morocco, which exceeded 40 billion Dirhams in 2014.According to a study conducted by the National Observatory of Tourism, GCC tourists represent 50% of Arab tourists who visit Morocco. The study revealed that half of tourists from Gulf countries come to Morocco alone, while tourists from other countries such as Britain and Germany prefer to travel to Morocco in groups.GCC tourists’ favorite period to visit Morocco is between May and August of each year, added the study.

Former Army Commander, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, says some crimes had taken place during the war but they were not systematic.During an interview with The Guardian, Fonseka said that his conscience is clear and he would welcome a war crimes investigation to prove his innocence The Guardian reported that to his supporters, Fonseka is a war hero. But to others he is a war criminal. He insists he has a clean conscience.“My intentions are clear. I did everything in good faith. My job was to save the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the country. I have done it. I did it as per the rules.” “There were no rapes, no torture during my command during the war. I know there have been a couple of allegations. But there should not be reason to try to declare war against the media or against the international community. We can clarify it.” “The army as a whole, I can give the assurance that we never committed war crimes,” he said. Fonseka also said he no longer harboured ambitions to be president or prime minister. “I am ready to say goodbye to politics at any time. My ambition is not to become president or become prime minister, but to ensure that the country is taken on the right path.” (Colombo Gazette)
US wholesale stockpiles shrink in May for 2nd month but sales rise, a sign growth may pick up AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email by Christopher S. Rugaber, The Associated Press Posted Jul 10, 2013 10:42 am MDT WASHINGTON – U.S. wholesalers cut back on restocking in May even as sales rose, indicating economic growth could pick up later this year as they rebuild their stockpiles. The Commerce Department said Wednesday that wholesale stockpiles shrank 0.5 per cent in May, the most in 20 months. That followed a 0.1 per cent decline in April, which was revised lower.Sales at the wholesale level jumped 1.6 per cent in May and 0.7 per cent in April.A reduction in stockpiles may prompt economists to cut their growth forecasts for the April-June quarter. But the steady gain in sales suggests companies may have to order more goods in the coming months to keep up with demand. That could boost factory production and drive more economic growth in the second half of the year.Auto sales jumped 3 per cent in May, yet stockpiles were unchanged. And sales of durable goods, items meant to last at least three years, rose 0.3 per cent, while inventories of those goods fell by the same amount.Sales of nondurable goods rose 2.8 per cent, the most in more than two years. The gain was driven by large increases in sales of clothing, groceries and pharmaceuticals. Stockpiles of those goods declined 0.8 per cent.Stockpiles of farm goods fell sharply for the second straight month, dropping 6 per cent. That likely reflected the impact of a severe drought last year, which has resulted in lower stockpiles this spring.Overall wholesale stockpiles totalled $500.9 billion in May, 3.3 per cent higher than a year ago.Much of the recent data suggest the second half of the year could be stronger, helped by steady job growth, a resilient consumer and a sustained recovery in housing.Employers have added 202,000 jobs a month through the first six month of the year. That’s up from 180,000 in the previous six months. More Americans are earning paychecks, which boosts overall income and supports more spending.Job growth is being fueled in part by consumer spending and the housing recovery. Consumer confidence is at a 5 1/2 year high and is helping drive up sales of homes and cars. From January through June, car sales reached their highest total for the first half of the year since 2007. And sales of previously occupied homes topped 5 million in May for the first time in 3 1/2 years.Still, unemployment remains high at 7.6 per cent. And the economy grew at a subpar 1.8 per cent annual rate in the January-March quarter. Many economists forecast that growth slowed further in the April-June quarter. One reason for the anticipated slowdown is weaker growth overseas has cut demand for U.S. exports. Most economists forecast growth will rebound by the end of the year. According to the latest Associated Press Economy Survey, completed last month, economists expect growth will pick up to a 2.5 per cent annual pace in the second half of the year.
Redshirt senior quarterback J.T. Barrett (16) prepares to call a play in the third quarter against Nebraska in Memorial Stadium on Oct. 14. Credit: Jack Westerheide | Photo EditorTo those who wanted Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett benched after Week 2, you weren’t wrong. The J.T. Barrett who completed 19-of-35 passes for 183 yards with no touchdowns and an interception against Oklahoma wasn’t the dynamic option at quarterback who could lead Ohio State to the top of college football in his final season. However, by Week 9, those who questioned Barrett early probably weren’t expecting the same guy to be leading the nation’s No. 2 scoring offense. This version of Barrett has completed 72 percent of his passes (98-for-136) for 1,340 yards and 18 touchdowns with zero turnovers in the past five games. Barrett is making those who doubted him eat crow. But those critics in the fanbase will gladly eat it, and they will likely ask for seconds because he has turned a deficient offense into a unit that is ready for its greatest challenge this season, when the No. 6 Buckeyes welcome No. 2 Penn State into Ohio Stadium Saturday afternoon.Plain and simple, Barrett has never played this well in his career.Only one other time has he played five consecutive turnover-less games passing, which began with last year’s loss at Penn State. Barrett completed 63.5 percent of his passes (103-for-162) and threw for 1,097 yards and eight touchdowns. Even in 2014, Barrett’s best season, the most consecutive games he went without an interception was three.Barrett insisted Wednesday he’s the “same guy” people wanted head coach Urban Meyer to bench after Week 2. “I’m the same person that people said that they wanted to bench,” Barrett said. “I’m the same person now who’s playing well, like the same guy.”He might be the same guy, but he’s a completely different player. When Barrett was at his best in 2014, he wasn’t fitting passes into tight spaces and normally would bail on the play and scramble if his top two options were not open. His first passing option was often the first player he targeted, usually Devin Smith or Michael Thomas — both NFL receivers. He doesn’t have any players of that caliber this season. He has had to create opportunities and, by doing so, has grown as a passer and has shown his confidence in throwing over the middle of a defense and in between defenders. Each game since Oklahoma has been a natural progression of the passing game. The game plan against Army featured horizontal passing with the defense playing off of receivers. Barrett threw five touchdowns to five different receivers the next week against UNLV. In the next three weeks against conference opponents, he led Ohio State to leads of at least 35 points by halftime while continuing to improve downfield passing and going through his route progressions. In his arsenal, Barrett has displayed accurate throws on back-shoulder fades, crossing routes and the occasional deep ball. Even if some disagree and think he hasn’t been as accurate as he should be, or that the competition has been menial, the incompletions he’s thrown have generally been harmless and thrown to a spot where only his receiver can come down with the ball.Barrett’s downfield passing game was rightly criticized. He completed just 9-of-30 passes thrown for at least 10 yards in the first two games, according to CFB Film Room. Barrett is coming off a Nebraska game in which he led the offense to a touchdown on every drive he played and converted 10 of 14 passes thrown 10 yards or more.H-back Parris Campbell has become a dangerous player with the ball in his hands in the open field. Receiver Johnnie Dixon has shown ability to stretch the field vertically as well as catch the ball in the middle of the defense. Wideout Binjimen Victor is now a legitimate red-zone target. J.K. Dobbins has been the ideal running back to put enough fear into a defense while Barrett turned those three wideouts into playmakers they weren’t at season’s dawn.Barrett and Ohio State probably won’t play a better team this season than Penn State, at least in the regular season. Saturday’s game will truly determine if he has taken the next step because, after all, quarterbacks at Ohio State are expected to win against top programs. After a fifth straight impressive showing by the offense and Barrett’s performance of 27-of-35 passing, 325 yards and five touchdowns a week ago at Nebraska, there is no denying it at this point: Barrett is the only quarterback the Buckeyes should have on the field.Early in the season, many people around college football didn’t think Barrett could be the guy to beat Penn State. Many of those same people, if not all, will be watching Saturday to see if Barrett will force them to eat crow again — possibly his most memorable dish yet.

Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram Dreams of a better life, education and solid investments have fuelled movement of migrants to Australia, with more than 28 per cent of the resident population born outside the country. That equals about 6.6 million people, numbers not seen in 120 years or since the tail end of the gold rush, said the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Denise Carlton. The figures chart the continued rise of China and India as source countries and the decline of people moving here from Britain. While the fastest increases in migrant populations between 2004 and last year were from Nepal, Brazil and Pakistan, China and India still led the way outside the traditional Britain-New Zealand leader bloc.“Overseas migration has been a large contributor to the total Australian population growth for several years: it has consistently been the main driver since 2005-06, contributing more than 50 per cent of population growth in Australia,” Ms Carlton said.“While the largest migrant groups were people born in the UK and New Zealand, with a total of over 1.8 million Australian residents being born in those two countries, the next two most common birthplaces were from the Asian region.” These were China and India, with about 450,000 and 400,000 respectively. Still, net overseas migration dipped almost 10 per cent in the past year.Source: The Australian
Tags Super excited to expand our partnership with @Sony on their next-generation @PlayStation console powered by a custom chip with @AMDRyzen Zen2 and @Radeon Navi architecture! 😀 https://t.co/EvdIrMNLiV— Lisa Su (@LisaSu) April 16, 2019 Share your voice Cerny also said that the console would include a solid-state drive. SSDs have much faster read and write performance than traditional spinning hard drives, which can dramatically affect game load times. High-resolution textures can also benefit from it, to improve transition time between scenes. He demonstrated it to Wired using 2018’s Spider-Man. Fast-traveling (basically teleporting to a different point on the map) took 15 seconds on the PS4, but doing so on a next gen development kit took 0.8 seconds — that’s a lot less time spent on loading screens.Sony claims the SSD will be even faster than a typical model: “An ultra high-speed SSD is the key to our next generation, and our vision is to make loading screens a thing of the past, enabling creators to build new and unique gameplay experiences,” a spokesperson said in an email to CNET. Though it hasn’t revealed exactly how it will attain a new level of performance, some possibilities include using caching, like Intel Optane, or possibly using some unknown future generation of SSD.First published April 17 at 7:07 a.m. PT.Updated at 1:36 a.m. PT: Adds Spider-Man comparison. But don’t look for it in 2019, and the commonly dubbed “PlayStation 5” may not be called that when all is said and done.Sony won’t be at E3 in June this year and AMD’s earnings release is scheduled for April 24, so it’s probably not surprising that Sony decided to provide us with some details now. AMD CEO Lisa Su took to Twitter to crow about the design win. AMD’s Navi graphics architecture is rumored to launch at E3. It’s based on the company’s 7-nanometer process, like the Radeon VII introduced at CES this year, but is expected to have a better power profile than AMD’s graphics processors traditionally have. The CPU is also from AMD, based on the company’s latest third-generation Zen 2 core.According to Cerny, the particular customization for the new PlayStation will add support for ray tracing — the technology used by GPUs to generate more accurate lighting effects like shadows and reflections in real time, with less of a hit on performance — plus 8K graphics and a custom audio processor to deliver better surround sound. 7 Spiderman Intel Sony
JOEY PALACIOS / TEXAS PUBLIC RADIOA synthetic rose rests on a chair inside the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church Sanctuary. The chairs mark where viticms were when they died.Family members that lost eight relatives in the mass shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs last November are filing suit against the federal government. The family is seeking millions of dollars in damages.Joe Holcombe and Claryce Holcombe are parents of John Bryan Holcombe, who was killed inside First Baptist Church with seven other Holcombe family members: Emily Rose Hill, Gregory Lynn Hill, Megan Gail Hill, Marc Daniel Holcombe, Noah Holcombe, Karla Plain Holcombe, Crystal Marie Holcombe, and the unborn child of Crystal. More than a dozen others were killed in the shooting and 20 more were injured.Houston-based attorney Rob Ammons said the Air Force failed to provide conviction and discharge information to the FBI that would have prevented the shooter, Devin Patrick Kelley, from buying a gun.“The shooter had a storied history of problems with law enforcement … while he was in the Air Force and the Air Force didn’t report him into the system,“ he said. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, claims damages of up to $25 million. It says the Air Force was negligent.“(John Bryan) Holcombe’s death was caused, in whole or in part, by the institutional failures of the United States Department of Defense, including, but not limited to, the U.S. Air Force, in that these entities negligently, recklessly, carelessly and/or egregiously failed to report pertinent criminal arrest and conviction information of the shooter into a federal database, as required by law and which would have prevented and barred the shooter from purchasing, owning, and/or possessing the firearms that he used in the shooting,” the suit says. The family filed an administrative complaint six months ago against the Air Force but received no formal response. Ammons said the federal government “has done nothing but ask for more information from the Holcombe family.”Kelley was able to purchase a Ruger AR-556 rifle at an Academy Sports + Outdoors store in San Antonio, which was used in the shooting, a news release from Aamons said.“Under a 1996 law preventing spouse and child abusers from possessing firearms, the service’s Office of Special Investigations should have entered that conviction into an FBI database,” Aamons wrote. “The office didn’t, the Air Force has admitted. What’s more, the acts Kelley pleaded guilty to — breaking his baby stepson’s skull and hitting and kicking his then-wife — were punishable by imprisonment of more than a year. That qualifies them as felonies, which must be entered into the database.”The federal government has about four weeks to respond to the lawsuit.Joey Palacios can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and on Twitter at @joeycules Share
Love chugging beer? You can make the experience better by learning some beer manners like not offering a warm beer and not removing the foam away, say experts. 4Wait till everyone has their beer in the hand. Be it in a bottle or a can or “cana” (small glass) as known in Spain, it is important that everyone have their beer together. This is followed by everyone to say “cheers” and start drinking. It is for sure tempting and irresistible when you have your beer in your hand, but that is what make good manners. Also Read – Add new books to your shelf4Do not offer a warm beer. Like in most case scenarios, cold food is frowned upon, similarly, you can appreciate the true taste and aroma of the beer only when it is served at the right temperature (between 3° and 5°C). However, never add ice to chill your beer. Instead you should keep it in a chiller until it reaches the right temperature.4Never pour beer in just any glass. Every alcohol has a specific glass it is to be served in, so does beer. Some glasses might look beautiful but a champagne glass and beer do not complement each other. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsive4Don’t shrug that foam away. The beer’s head is a good thing especially when you pour it right. A creamy foam keeps a taste. As you drink it, let the head pass through your lips and cover your tongue. Once you do that, you will evidently notice more flavour than before. While there shouldn’t be too much of it, lack of it could indicate a number of things from the glass being dirty, soapy residents still present in the glass, the beer has lost its carbonation or that the beer bottles weren’t sealed properly allowing infections to enter in or even that the beer has been oxidized. 4Beers have many different flavours and aromas and how a beer drinker feels about their favourite beer is different from how another perceives it. So don’t order a beer for someone else, let them decide what they would like.4Never accept beer being poured into a frozen glass. Although beer is best enjoyed chilled, it’s the beer that needs to be chilled and absolutely not the glass. Freeze kills the flavors so if your server gets you a frozen glass, politely asked him/her to change the glass.4Don’t choose your beer as the crowd is taking. Beer should be opted according to your taste, maybe one of us wish to have it soft, light cream or sweet dark lager.ians

It hurts, it really does because we have a lot more pride than that.”The Cardinals gave up a franchise-high 58 points in the loss and were shut out for the first time since September 2003.Whisenhunt attributed the lopsided score to the six first half turnovers committed by Arizona, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
